Hi! My name is Julia Augusta Leal, which is why I use "JA" as my little logo.
I'm originally from Brazil, spent a good part of a decade in Canada, and my home is Berlin, Germany.
Work
I find it hard to limit my skillset and work to a label. I design everything from printed materials to marketing graphics, branding assets, 2D illustrations, websites and user interfaces. I also write and create content for a variety of uses - from blogs and infographics to newsletters and ads.
I've lived as a digital designer and content creator since around 9 years old, creating pixel art, illustrations, online community signatures, setting up websites, managing online communities, writing blogs and eventually organizing events. Topics included fashion, creative writing, virtual pets, cartoons, and relationships.
Naturally, I later decided to get my Bachelor of Graphic Design at the Universidade Federal do Paraná in Curitiba, Brazil. That's a 4-year degree that includes user interface design and user experience research - UI/UX.
Every position I've held since has included a variety of my skills, rather than being strictly focused on just graphic design. I've created a large variety of work at my in-house positions, but my most exciting projects have been done independently or as a freelancer.
Personal
I'm overall a person who enjoys good connections, communicates well and directly with kindness, speaks up for what she believes, and can also compromise and cooperate. I'm solution-oriented and I work well independently or in a team - especially when expectations are clear.
In my free time, I go swing dancing, read psychology books or listen to lectures and podcasts, sew clothes, knit or crochet, watch stand-up comedy, and play videogames (working through Spiritfarer as of October 2024 - a bit late to the party).
